World Missions

“…The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
– – Luke 10:2

At Mighty Fortress, we are keenly aware that there is a huge world outside of our church doors, with many souls in desperate need of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Our Lord’s command to “…Go and make disciples of all nations…”(Matthew 28:19-20) presents a rather daunting task for an individual congregation by themselves.  Therefore, we promote the activity of Mission Central, whose responsibility is to coordinate and promote mission activities, thereby bringing the saving message of Jesus to places throughout the world where we as an individual congregation could not feasibly go.

Mission Central is a mission supporting agency of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (our sister Synod).  As part of  their World Mission global Gospel outreach, it has been blessed by God to be the conduit helping to raise millions of dollars every year to send and keep LCMS World Mission Missionaries in the field.

Since 2003, Mission Central has had more than 50 LCMS missionaries and their families visit (many have come several times) and has had tens of thousands of people from hundreds of congregations visit. God has indeed blessed this place to be a mission center, focusing on telling others about Jesus!

Mission Central is committed to:

–          Helping you personally support missionaries!

–          Assisting you personally to volunteer your time and
           talents for the Lord’s work.

–          Reducing the overhead costs associated with your personal gift.

–          Restricting your gift to a specific family or project, in order
that you have the absolute assurance that your gift of love is
going directly for its intended purpose!

Please visit the Mission Central website to learn more about the world mission activity of the LCMS, and pray that the Lord would turn many hearts to him through the efforts of these dedicated individuals.  You are also invited to stop in at Mission Central in Mapleton, Iowa to meet “Missionary Gary” (Gary Theis) in person, and tour their impressive facility and mission museum.

“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
– – Matthew 25:40

Jesus reminds us that our faith needs to be more than just words; it also must be a faith in action. Going into the world with the message of the Gospel is the most important thing, but certainly not the only thing we do.  We are mindful of such problems as hunger, disease, war, and disaster that have devastating effects on people the world over.

Through the Lutheran World Relief program, Lutherans respond to help in times of trouble.  In addition to this, Mighty Fortress supports and participates in the annual Seward area CROP walk, which raises funds for world hunger and world relief.  We pray that we can be at least a small part of the solution to some of the world’s physical problems and needs.
